Do you know about Crash Course on YouTube? It is worth a look.
Close Reading - Unfamiliar TextsThis page contains resources to help you improve your skills in close reading and analysis.
The most important skill you need in L2 English is analysis. This means to beak things down into their constituent components in order to see how they work. It is vital that you are familiar with language terminology. Look online and find yourself a good glossary of language terms. There are two good starting points on this page. Watch the video clip below and click on the button to the right to link to a useful website with language terms. |
How to analyse a poem
This video clip is fast-paced, so watch it a few times and hit pause every now and then so you can digest what he is saying. He analyses a Wilfred Owen poem, one that we may study later this term.
The Most Important Skill in Level 2: AnalysisIn the video clip below, the slides we used in class has a voice-over to review what we discussed. Watch it as you review your work. This is a useful activity to do in SMS or at home. Click on the button to download a Word version of the "Assembly" poem.
Below is an embedded slideshow that you can scroll through to revise the recent lessons. Let Mr McGilchrist know what you find more useful: the video clip with voice-over or the silent but elegant embedded slides.
