Introduction
All units of work are to be planned in accordance with the New Zealand Curriculum document and will reflect the principles, values and key competencies as well as the relevant achievement objectives. The English Department has a flexible and student-centred practice. The HoD will provide a range of resources to teachers within the department to help them plan units of work. Teachers are free to use these resources, adapt them to better match their students’ needs, or use a different method of planning, within the parameters described below. Planning lessons is responsive to students’ needs. Teachers must not plan the entire year in advance in minute detail, nor should they stick rigidly to the suggested timing of units of work that are provided by the HoD. Teachers will respond to students’ needs and plan accordingly. Having said that, it is important to keep to assessment and moderation deadlines. The HoD The HoD will be responsible for:

Supplementary notes for 2015 – planning and assessment
Managing Workload 2015 will be a high-pressure year (again). To help manage this more effectively, I suggest the following: · Let’s stick rigidly to having no internal assessment, including reassessment, in term 4. · Where practicable, assess no more than one internal AS per year group per term. · Where practicable, the HoD should manage internal assessment across year groups so as to avoid excessive marking loads. · Certain internal AS should have no reassessment opportunities. (Eg 3.5) Year 10 NCEA Internal Assessment This year, we will continue to assess 1.6 at Year 10 · At the beginning of the year a letter will be sent home to parents that outlines the details of the assessment. · Conditions of Assessment · Resubmission policy and date. · Deadlines: any extensions asked for after the deadline will need to go through the HOD and there is a 99.9% chance he won’t agree to an extension. · NZATE exemplars are available. |
